Early Navy Post Office Postmarks and Postal History
The postmarks of the Navy Post Offices during the Victorian and Edwardian era represent a very difficult area for maritime and military postal history collectors as material is very scarce. The earliest Navy Post Offices were established at Plymouth, Portsmouth, Devonport and a few other ports the navy operated from. Navy Post Offices were set up and managed by the local Postmaster who would employ local boatmen to collect and deliver mail to naval ships while they were anchored in harbour. [...]

    Stamps Ruined by Royal Mail
I know it will happen. I expect it to happen. But just how often should it happen? The envelope that, for whatever reason, doesn't get postmarked normally, but gets cancelled manually by a scribble of a ballpoint pen. The biro now seems to be the tool of choice for Royal Mail instead of a manually applied postmark as would have been used in those days gone by when there were those old-fashioned standards underpinned by job pride in the British workplace. [...]

What to Make of those Common Stamps? - A View from 1915
From time to time I like to browse antique philately books and journals as they often contain insights, information or statistics of interest to modern stamp and postal history collectors. Philatelic Terms Explained: What is a Perfin? What is the Purpose of Perfins?

Making Profits From New GB Stamp Issues

Starting A Post Office Label Sheets Collection
In the rare moments of peace I've had over the holidays I've been thumbing through the 2009 Stanley Gibbons Concise Catalogue considering new collection ideas for 2010 and, the result is, I've decided to build and maintain a complete collection of the Post Office Label Sheets as catalogued by SG for the reign of Queen Elizabeth without including the privately produced "Smilers Sheets". Modern GB Stamps Used in Gibraltar
As existing collectors will already know, since World War II the majority of mail posted to the UK from Gibraltar by British Forces personnel was sent using local Gibraltarian stamps rather than GB issues.
